PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale BETA Review

I can’t remember right now when or where SONY announce Play Station All-Stars Battle Royale, but recently they release the BETA. Las week the BETA was release for PlayStation PLUS users and now is public.

PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale it’s a PlayStation exclusive, fighting game where almost every character from PlayStation get together in one game to fight (Same thing we have been seeing the last years with Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo). Like I said before, the BETA was release this week and now it’s time for us to give you our Review. Please remember this is a review for the BETA not the full game.

When we get a game there are some things that we like to see in a game; for example: good graphics, good gameplay and good story. In the case of PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, we are going to skip the “story” part because it’s just a BETA and you are not allowed to play the story of the game (Actually, I’m not even sure if there is one).

Graphics:

PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale has pretty good graphics to be honest. The game is really colorful, but not to the point were it looks too cartoonish. At the beginning I was worried because I was asking myself, How are they going to mix characters like Kratos or Sweet Tooth that are so realistic made with other characters like Fat Princess or Parappa? But I have to say SONY made a grate job in this aspect. All characters look amazing and the stages too. The mixture of both, realistic made character and cartoonish made characters, with the colorful stages looks pretty cool (At least in a HD TV). I personally didn’t find any problem with the graphics.

Gameplay:

When you see a game that is 95% the same gameplay as Super Smash Bros. you can’t imagine something can go wrong; but actually, it can. The game has an amazing gameplay, that’s right, the stages are pretty simple and the characters are all pretty cool and easy to control. But, there are some things that I don’t really like; for example: Kratos! Everyone love Kratos right? Come on, he’s the guy who kills gods with his own hands, all the fans love him, and apparently, the Developers too. In this game Kratos is the best character of all, and that’s not exactly good. He’s too cheap! I played 6 games and 3 of them were using Kratos, and guess what? I won every match. The other 3 games, whoever used Kratos won, and I don’t think that’s a coincidence. I feel Like Kratos is going to be the Meta Knight of this game, because I feel like it was way too powerful compare to the other characters.

Second thing I didn’t like? I feel like this game is not a game of skills, it’s a game of luck. The game gives you a time limit where you have to do the most kills to win. How do you do this kills? Well you have to fill a little bar you have on the bottom of your screen and when it’s filled, you can use some kind of “Special Attack” that will automatically kill whoever you get. So that means... Just hit every button randomly and hope that bar gets filled and you can kill something. Imagine a Super Smash Bros. that the only way you can kill someone is by using the “Smash Attack”, nothing else. No spikes, no combos, nothing, just Special Attack and done. This is not good, I don’t want people to have luck, I want them to have real skills in this game. But sadly SONY decide to make it that way so we have no option.

Another thing people din’t like from the gameplay videos was that the saw that the stages were too interactive, but to be honest is not that much, it is interactive, but not to the point where you want to turn off the console or stop playing the game.

Score:

PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale is a really fun to play game. The graphics are pretty cool, the characters are all awesome, and the stages are epic. If you have the opportunity, get 3 of your friends, invite them to a private match and have some fun. The BETA lets you play with characters like:

- Sweet Tooth - from Twisted Metal

- Fat Princess - from Fat Princess

- Parappa - from Parappa The Rapper

- Sly Cooper - from Sly Cooper

- Kratos - from God of War

- Radec -  from Killzone

But I recommend you don’t let your friends use Kratos. My score for the PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale BETA is a 9. But remember that this is just my opinion, feel free to download the game and try it yourself.

PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale will be release on November 21, 2012.
